Star Wars 2019 & 2020: What comes when?

You won’t be able to enjoy all the new Star Wars stories in the near future. Some of them have already been released, others will be kept up to date with new content – such as the Star Wars: Resistance series, the second season of which has been broadcast since October 2019. Let’s take a look at it chronologically.

Star Wars: Master & Apprentice: Already released

Star Wars Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray cover book

Star Wars: Master & Apprentice is for all Star Wars fans who want to get back to the prequel era. The story is set before Episode I: A young Obi-Wan Kenobi has to complete a mission together with his master Qui-Gon Jinn. Author Claudia Gray has an experienced hand for character drawing. The relationship between the two Jedi is explained in detail, but also Qui-Gon’s relationship to his teacher Count Dooku is in the spotlight. One of the best prequel books now.

Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron: Already Released

Star Wars Alphabet Squadron

Does anyone remember the old X-Wing novels? When rebel and imperial pilots were the stars of the show? Hach, the good old days. And that’s exactly what Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron revives. The plot follows the events of Episode VI and revolves around pilot aces of the New Republic who hunt Imperial survivors. For Battlefront fans, there are some connections between the story of Iden Versio and the dreaded Operation Cinder.

The first volume of Alphabet Squadron has already been published and is to be continued in 2020. The novel gets rather average reviews at Amazon, some love it, others find the plot boring. There is also a comic series called TIE Fighter, which is also linked to the story of Alphabet Squadron.

Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron: Already Released

Jedi Fallen Order - Dark Temple

The video game also receives extra material from the world of print media. The comic series Dark Temple sees itself as a prequel and tells the story of Jedi Knight Cere Junda, who acts as mentor to the main character Cal Kestis in the game.
Dark Temple has been released as a mini-series since September 2019. The last issue will be released on December 4, 2019, and will probably be followed soon by a anthology for people who don’t want to collect single issues.

Star Wars: Resistance - Season 2: Since October 2019

The animation series Star Wars: Resistance is also about pilot aces who have to fight against the rising First Order in the era from Episode VII to IX. Resistance is one of the few insights into the new Star Wars universe of Sequel movies. Well-known characters like Poe Dameron, Phasma or Kylo Ren have guest appearances.

Star Wars: Resistance is in its second season. The series will be broadcast on Disney XD, the last episode is scheduled for spring 2020. Resistance hasn’t been extended by a third season, so the series will end soon.

Star Wars: Resistance Reborn: November 5, 2019

STAR WARS RESISTANCE REBORN by Rebecca Roanhorse

Resistance Reborn could become the most important companion book to the new Star Wars movies. So far there have been very few games, films or books about the sequel era. Resistance Reborn explains what happens between Episode VIII and IX, while the failed New Republic rebuilds the resistance. And provides us with more background information on the characters Rey, Poe, Finn and Co.

Whether Resistance Reborn really tells a good story, we can’t judge yet. The novel will be published on 5 November 2019 as a paperback version. The book is a prequel to Star Wars IX, so if you want to shorten the waiting time, you should find a lot of information there that will enrich The Rise of Skywalker a bit.

The Mandalorian: November 12, 2019

A historic event in the Star Wars universe is scheduled for November 12, 2019: We get the first live action series in Star Wars. The Mandalorian follows Episode VI and tells the story of a bounty hunter (Pedro Pascal) in Mandalorian armour thrown into the aftermath of the Galactic Civil War. The Mandalorian will be broadcast exclusively on Disney’s new streaming platform.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Oder: Release on November 15, 2019

It is EA’s big Star Wars game for 2019, and in fact it diverges drastically from the current service game formula of many major publishers: the game will be a pure single-player experience. We steer the surviving Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis after Episode III through the terror rule of the Galactic Empire. We travel to various planets, including Kashyyyk, but are hunted by the dark Inquisitors Darth Vaders. The game will be released on November 15, 2019 for PC, Xbox and PS4.

Star Wars 9: Release on December 19, 2019

The Main Event 2019: From 19 December a new Star Wars film will be shown in cinemas of Germany. Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker ends the saga around Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren. Meanwhile have been released, the latest trailer you can find above. We don’t want to spoil too much about the plot, that’s why we only want to spoil so much: The film suggests a return of surprising old acquaintances.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2: New content

Star Wars Battlefront

Even two years after release, new content is still being added. Recently we have the multiplayer shooter. After many months of cloning wars, new sequel content is planned for the theatrical release of Episode IX. Probably there will be a new planet from the movie and new outfits for Rey, Kylo and Co.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga: 2020

There have been few games on the new films to date, but at some point in 2020 at least a new one will be added: it sees itself as an all-round package for Star Wars fans. Because the co-op action adventure does not only cover Star Wars IX, but all films of the series. Part I to IX, which makes it the most ambitious LEGO Star Wars to date.

More about this topic

This list does not include all Star Wars materials that will appear or have appeared in 2019. For example, Queen Amidala also received a novel of her own, which, however, has met with a very mixed response from critics.

And then there are various young Adult novels as well as the current comic series. Of course, we won’t prevent anyone from delving deeper into the material here, but our overview is limited to the larger event stories.
